Antique 18k Gold Red Celluloid Ring c.1910

Antique 18k gold ring set with an oval-shaped red celluloid cabochon. The color of the celluloid mimics red coral. Celluloid is an early plastic invented in the 1860s. The color of the gold is slightly rosy. A pretty filigreed basket holds the stone. Split claw prongs add to the design.
